Barbarian Queen

Corman's Argentine Conan-with-women, honest bottom-shelf swords and loincloths.

Roger Corman produced this in Argentina back to back with Deathstalker, Hector Olivera directing, and it is the sword-and-sorcery boom's distaff entry: Lana Clarkson leads a band of warrior women to sack the army that razed their village and dragged off their men. It is cheap, nude and violent in the exact ratio the barbarian cycle ran on, and it carries a torture-rack sequence grim enough to hand the whole thing its dubious reputation. Clarkson swings a sword with more conviction than the budget has earned.

Corman's machine doing precisely what Corman's machine did.

Fulci does Conan through so much fog you can barely see the gore. Somehow that helps.
