Baron Blood
A resurrected torturer stalks his own castle. Bava on more commercial autopilot, still gorgeous.
A more conventional Bava gothic, in which a young man visiting his ancestral Austrian castle recites an incantation that resurrects a sadistic torturer ancestor. The Baron, hideously scarred, stalks the now-touristed castle picking off victims with medieval enthusiasm.
It is less personal than Lisa and the Devil, made the same period, but Bava's command of the castle setting, fog and colour is undiminished. Joseph Cotten lends it some gravity. Handsome, atmospheric minor Bava.
