The Shiver of the Vampires

Rollin's third vampire film, and the one where he plugs in a rock band. A honeymooning couple arrive at a remote chateau to find the bride's two cousins have turned vampire, now given to lecturing at length between feedings, while a predatory servant named Isolde makes her entrances out of a grandfather clock. The psych band Acanthus provides a fuzz-guitar score that has no business working over cobwebbed crypts and works completely. As ever with Rollin, narrative is optional and mood is the whole budget: candlelit stone, naked figures drifting through ruins, a dream that forgot to end. His most colourful and least sleepy film, and a good place to find out whether he is for you.
