Eleven monsters, no restraint, and Ishiro Honda cashing every chip Toho had accumulated. In the near future the world's kaiju are kept on an island until aliens seize control of them and turn them loose on the world's cities, culminating in a mass brawl at Mount Fuji. It was meant as a grand finale for the series.

It is pure spectacle, monster after monster, and for kaiju fans the all-out final battle is the genre's equivalent of a supergroup concert. The plot is a delivery system for creatures, and nobody minds.
