Lips of Blood

Rollin's most coherent, which is not saying a great deal. Gorgeous.

The most coherent of Rollin's vampire films, which for him means it almost has a story. A man haunted by a childhood memory of a ruined castle and a mysterious woman follows the images across a nocturnal Paris toward their source. The mood is elegiac, romantic, slightly sad.

It has the empty Parisian nightscapes, the diaphanous vampire women and the fragile melancholy that define his best work, with just enough plot to follow. Rollin considered it among his personal favourites.

A good entry point for anyone curious about Rollin's peculiar spell.
