This Night I'll Possess Your Corpse

The second Coffin Joe film, in which Jose Mojica Marins returns as Ze do Caixao, the top-hatted, long-nailed undertaker who despises God and wants only to sire the perfect son. Where the first film was stark black and white, this one detours into a delirious colour vision of Hell, all writhing bodies and ice and torment, that Marins staged himself on almost no money and which remains the most astonishing thing he ever shot. Around it is the usual Coffin Joe business: blasphemy, and spiders poured over screaming women. Marins built an entire national bogeyman out of a self-financed, self-starring nightmare that Brazil still cannot quite claim or disown. Uglier, madder and more visionary than its budget had any right to be.
