Sugar Hill
Revenge via Haitian zombies. The best of the blaxploitation horror crossovers.
The best of the blaxploitation horror crossovers. After her man is murdered by the mob, a woman raises an army of Haitian zombies, cobweb-covered corpses with silver eyes, to take her revenge one gangster at a time. It is a straight revenge picture using the undead as the weapon.
The zombie design is eerie, the voodoo trappings are treated with more respect than usual, and Marki Bey makes a cool, controlled lead. AIP knew exactly what it was doing pairing these two genres.
Stylish, satisfying, and better than a mash-up has any right to be.
