The Creature with the Blue Hand

The late Rialto Wallace krimis were running short on ideas, so this one hands Klaus Kinski two roles, a man committed to an asylum for murders he swears he did not commit and the twin brother who may have framed him, and arms the killer loose in a fog-bound country house with an iron gauntlet whose fingers snap shut like a bear trap. Alfred Vohrer directs at full delirium: secret passages, a lunatic asylum, hidden money, and Kinski doing the wild-eyed thing he was born to do, doubled. The plot is the usual contested-inheritance clockwork and does not reward close attention. What you are here for is a black-and-white haunted-house whodunit with the genre's most reliable madman cast against himself. An American distributor later recut it with fresh gore as Bloody Dead, which you can safely skip.
