Bare Behind Bars
Brazil's Boca do Lixo does women-in-prison with everything the drive-in cut left out.
The definitive women-in-prison picture out of Boca do Lixo, the grindhouse district of Sao Paulo that ran on films exactly this cheap and this dirty. A jungle jail is run by a sadistic warden and a nymphomaniac nurse, the newcomer-riot-escape formula is all present and correct, and Oswaldo de Oliveira pushes the sex and violence well past what the American and Filipino versions dared. It is the Brazilian vein of the cycle at its most explicit and least apologetic.
Sleazier than its cousins, and it means every frame of it.
