Crippled Avengers

Four men maimed by a tyrant learn to fight through their disabilities. Chang Cheh at his most inventive.

One of Chang Cheh's Venom Mob films, in which a cruel martial-arts master maims four men, blinding one, deafening and muting another, amputating a third's legs, driving a fourth mad, and the four learn to turn their disabilities into a fighting style and take revenge. The choreography built around each impairment is extraordinarily inventive.

It is lurid and cruel in setup and dazzling in execution, with the Venoms performing some of the most creative fight sequences Shaw Brothers ever staged. A high point of the studio's late-70s output, and a genuine cult favourite.
