Emanuelle and the Last Cannibals
Black Emanuelle wanders into a cannibal picture, and D'Amato lets both halves misbehave.
Joe D'Amato had a Black Emanuelle series and a cannibal boom on his hands at the same time, so he welded them together. Laura Gemser plays the globe-trotting photojournalist Emanuelle, who traces the tribal scars on a patient in a New York asylum back to a supposedly extinct cannibal tribe in the Amazon and heads upriver for the story. What that gives you is the softcore travelogue of the Emanuelle films spliced onto the disembowelments of the cannibal cycle, with Gemser gliding through nudity, jungle peril and D'Amato's enthusiastic prosthetic gore in roughly equal measure. It is sleazier and more cheerful than Deodato's grim landmarks, more interested in exploitation than atrocity, and considerably easier to sit through for it. Note the single m: this is the Gemser jungle picture, not the 1974 Sylvia Kristel perfume advertisement.
