Jungle Holocaust

Ruggero Deodato's first jungle film, three years before Cannibal Holocaust, and a dry run for it. An oil prospector is captured by a tribe, stripped and caged, and slowly reduced to something feral himself before escaping. It is slower and less structurally ambitious than the film that made Deodato notorious.

The gore and the real animal cruelty that define the cycle are present, and Deodato is clearly working out ideas he would sharpen later. Massimo Foschi commits fully to the physical ordeal.
