Faster, Pussycat! Kill! Kill!
Meyer's best. Tura Satana is a genuine screen presence and the dialogue snaps.
Russ Meyer's best film and the one least interested in what he was usually selling. Three go-go dancers drive into the desert, kill a man, and take a girl hostage, and Tura Satana's Varla is one of the great screen presences: all black gloves, contempt and karate.
It flopped on release and became a cult object decades later, admired now for its dialogue, its editing, and Satana, who did her own stunts and her own glaring. The whole thing is shot in high-contrast desert black and white that looks like a comic panel.
Fast, mean and quotable. It has aged into a classic.

Filed alongside
Alvin Purple
The sex comedy that funded the entire boom. Historically important, hard going.
Bad Girls Go to Hell
The definitive Doris Wishman roughie: grimy, deranged, and edited by someone allergic to faces.
Scum of the Earth
Herschell Gordon Lewis invents the roughie the same year he invents gore. Busy man.
The Curious Dr. Humpp
Argentine, insane, and re-cut by its US distributor into something stranger.
The Immoral Mr. Teas
Historically pivotal, formally inert. Watch ten minutes and read about the rest.
The House on the Edge of the Park
Deodato points Last House at a dinner party. Grubby, mean, effective.
