The Curious Dr. Humpp

An Argentine oddity, made stranger by its American distributor, who bought a mad-scientist horror film and spliced in hardcore inserts to sell it. A deranged doctor kidnaps couples to harvest the energy of their lovemaking, aided by a talking disembodied brain, and the result is a surreal collision of gothic horror and grafted-on sleaze.

The original film is a moody black-and-white creature feature; the added footage makes it something else entirely, and the seams are part of the appeal. Few films illustrate the exploitation distribution process so literally.

Bizarre, disreputable and unlike anything else on this shelf.
