Female Trouble

Divine's crime spree as performance art. Waters at his most focused and vicious.

John Waters and Divine's follow-up to Pink Flamingos, and arguably their best film. Divine plays Dawn Davenport, who runs away from home after not getting cha-cha heels for Christmas and descends through crime, disfigurement and stardom toward the electric chair, all under the theory that crime is beauty.

It is more controlled and more satirical than Pink Flamingos, skewering fame, glamour and the art world with real venom. Divine gives a committed, extraordinary performance in multiple roles. Waters at the height of his powers as a provocateur.
