Master of the Flying Guillotine

A blind monk, a bladed hat on a chain, and a tournament. Perfect.

A blind Imperial assassin wielding a bladed hat on a chain hunts the one-armed boxer who killed his students, and the film builds to a martial-arts tournament featuring fighters with wildly different styles, including one with telescoping arms. It is gloriously inventive pulp.

Jimmy Wang Yu directs and stars, and the flying-guillotine weapon is one of the great exploitation gadgets. The tournament structure and outlandish fighters have been sampled endlessly, from video games to Tarantino.

Pure kung fu imagination, and a genuine cult landmark.
