The Man from Hong Kong

Jimmy Wang Yu wrecks Sydney, with hang-gliding and a man actually on fire. Peak crossover.

Brian Trenchard-Smith's Australia-Hong Kong smash-up, and the crossover everyone else has been failing to match ever since. Jimmy Wang Yu, the one-armed swordsman himself, plays a Hong Kong supercop who flies to Sydney to collect a prisoner and levels most of the city instead. The stunts are real and reckless: a hang-glider over Sydney Harbour, a fight that opens at Uluru, and George Lazenby set alight for a full-body burn that reportedly got away from everyone on the day. Trenchard-Smith does his own stunt work and gets hurt for it. Jimmy Wang Yu could not drive, which lends the car scenes a certain authenticity. Wall to wall, gleeful and brutal, with Jigsaw's Sky High blaring over the wreckage.
