Stray Cat Rock: Sex Hunter

Before Toei turned her into the face of Female Prisoner Scorpion, Meiko Kaji was over at Nikkatsu fronting the Stray Cat Rock films, and this is the best of them. She leads a girl gang in a mod-lit nowhere town where the local boss has decided to hunt down everyone of mixed race, which turns a groovy youth picture unexpectedly hard about halfway in. Yasuharu Hasebe shoots it like a pop single, all zooms and colour and garage rock, then lets real venom bleed through.

Kaji barely raises her voice and owns every frame she stands in.
