Sam Raimi remakes and sequels his own film at once, and discovers slapstick in the process. Ash returns to the cabin, loses his mind and his hand, and battles his own possessed limb in a Three Stooges routine with chainsaws. The horror is still real but now it is also hilarious.
Bruce Campbell becomes a physical-comedy genius here, taking a beating from the furniture, the walls and himself. Raimi's camera never stops moving. It is the moment the franchise found its true, ridiculous voice.
Horror comedy at its most inventive and best executed.
