Wild in the Streets

A satirical AIP picture in which the voting age is lowered, a charismatic rock star is swept into the presidency on a youth-power wave, and everyone over thirty-five is rounded up into camps and permanently dosed with LSD. It is broad, cynical and weirdly prophetic about celebrity politics.

Christopher Jones plays the messianic star, and Shelley Winters plays his monstrous mother. The film cannot decide whether it fears the youth revolution or is thrilled by it, and that confusion is what makes it such a good document of 1968.
