2019: After the Fall of New York

In a post-nuclear world, a mercenary is hired to extract the last fertile woman on Earth from the ruins of Manhattan, in a film that lifts from Escape from New York, Mad Max and Planet of the Apes with total shamelessness. It is one of the more spectacle-heavy Italian post-nuke pictures.

The quarry-as-wasteland sets, the rat-eating mutants and the pulpy last-hope-for-humanity plot are all present, delivered with Sergio Martino's usual efficiency. It aims higher than most of the cycle and mostly hits.

One of the better-produced Italian apocalypses. Enjoyably derivative.
