The New Barbarians

Castellari's Mad Max, with perspex cars and George Eastman. Sold in the US as Warriors of the Wasteland.

Enzo Castellari's most direct Mad Max riff, with perspex-bubble cars and George Eastman as the leader of a nihilistic cult bent on exterminating the last of humanity. A lone drifter and a Black archer defend a group of survivors, and the film is pure post-nuke vehicular carnage. It was sold in the US as Warriors of the Wasteland.

The costumes and cars are gloriously absurd, the violence is constant, and Castellari stages the road battles with genuine drive-in enthusiasm. It is exactly what the cycle exists to deliver.

Ridiculous, relentless and a fine example of Italian apocalypse trash.
