Corman satire with actual teeth. Stallone before anyone knew.
Corman satire with real teeth. In a fascist future, a coast-to-coast road race scores points for running down pedestrians, and the film is broad, cheap and considerably smarter than it lets on about media, spectacle and the audience enjoying it.
David Carradine is the masked champion Frankenstein; a young Sylvester Stallone is his rival, chewing everything. It plays as comedy and lands its politics anyway, which is the Corman trick at its best.
Funnier and sharper than the remake understood.
