A white Challenger, amphetamines, and an existential crisis at speed.
A man is paid to drive a Dodge Challenger from Denver to San Francisco and decides, for no reason the film will fully give, to do it without stopping and without a good explanation for the police now chasing him. That is the entire plot, and it is enough.
It became a countercultural touchstone because the driving is real, the desert is enormous, and the whole thing plays like a man driving away from a country he has given up on. Tarantino has called it one of his favourites and it is easy to see why.
More elegy than car film, though the driving is genuine.
