Cemetery Man

A cemetery caretaker shoots the returning dead and falls in love repeatedly. Beautiful and deranged.

Michele Soavi's late, great, strange horror film, in which the caretaker of an Italian cemetery where the dead routinely return must shoot them each night, while falling in love, repeatedly, with the same woman in different forms. It is a zombie film that becomes a surreal meditation on love, death and identity.

Rupert Everett is perfect as the weary gravedigger, and the film is gorgeous, funny and philosophical in ways the genre rarely attempts. Based on a Dylan Dog comic, it is one of the last masterpieces of Italian horror.

Revenge via Haitian zombies. The best of the blaxploitation horror crossovers.
