Next of Kin

A slow-burn gothic set in a rural nursing home, and far better than its obscurity suggests. A young woman inherits the home after her mother's death and begins to suspect the deaths among the residents are not natural, and the film builds an atmosphere of dread that erupts into a startling, stylish finale.

Tony Williams directs with a control and visual ambition that drew comparisons to Kubrick, and the final act is a bravura set piece. It was almost forgotten before Tarantino and others championed it.

A genuine Ozploitation sleeper, atmospheric and beautifully made.
