Veerana

The Ramsay brothers' witch movie, with musical numbers between the murders.

The Ramsay brothers were India's only real horror factory, a family firm cranking out gothic shockers for the Bombay market, and Veerana is one of their most beloved. A young woman is possessed by the spirit of a seductive witch who lures men to their deaths, and a tantrik is eventually called in to sort it out. What makes the Ramsay formula worth the trip is that none of this interrupts the songs, the romance or the comic subplot, because a Hindi horror film still has to be a full masala entertainment. The result is a haunted haveli, a man-eating enchantress and a dance number in the same reel, and it is far more fun than that should be.
