The most deranged thing Shaw Brothers ever paid for, and it never slows down to explain itself.
A Hong Kong boxer travels to Thailand to avenge his brother, crippled in the ring, and instead of a rematch he gets drafted into a war between Buddhist holy men and a black magician, which is where Kuei Chih-Hung stops making sense on purpose. What follows is a non-stop parade of practical-effects atrocity: a wizard who vomits to attack, corpses reassembled from crocodile parts, a woman birthing something that should not exist, bats, eels, chewing, and rot shot in loving close-up. There is a plot about karma and reincarnation holding it together, technically. Nobody watches it for the plot. It is one of the great how-did-this-get-funded objects in horror, gorgeous and disgusting in the same shot.
